Life on Purpose

Are you living your life on accident or on purpose?  God has been showing me lately that we don’t need to live our lives on autopilot and let each day pass us by.  Instead, we need to enjoy each moment and live each day with purpose.

James 4:14 states, “…what is your life?  It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”  I think we all know that life is short and goes by very quickly.  It seems many people spend a lot of precious time missing out on the simple pleasures of everyday life by worrying about things like their past, getting older, the economy, their workload, etc.  I find that very sad, because while your mind is on those things, you are missing out on the things God has given us to enjoy.

I’ll be 29 in June, which means I am quickly closing in on my thirtieth birthday.  I have made a decision on purpose to be excited about this milestone in my life.  Not only do I refuse to be depressed about the passing of time, but I have made a list of things that I would like to accomplish by June 18, 2009 (my 30th birthday) and I am attempting to live each day through the power of the Holy Spirit and God’s Word with the purpose of accomplishing these things.  Why?  Because my life is quickly passing by.  Because I don’t want to be at the end of my life looking back wishing I had enjoyed time with my husband, encouraged a friend, took better care of myself, or pursued my relationship with God to the fullest (and the list goes on).

What are you doing with your life?  Do you enjoy the good things or complain about the bad?  Do you give it your all at everything you do or do you just put forth the minimum effort?  Do you enjoy your time with your family or do you spend your time wishing they were more like someone else’s?  Do you have any goals in life or are you just sailing through?  It’s up to you to make the choice.  You may have difficult circumstances surrounding you, but you can’t blame your life or how you feel on anyone or anything but you.  Only you will stand before God someday and give account of your life.

Don’t let your life be a tragic accident; live your life on purpose.

Sonya
